Plakias beach Het dorp Plakias ligt in de richting van het centrum van een grote baai aan de zuidelijke kust van Rethymno, omgeven door de armen van de bergen. Oorspronkelijk een zeer klein en rustig vissersdorp, het biedt nu een scala aan hotels, tavernes, cafes en winkels. De natuurlijke schoonheid van de plaats hielp Plakias om een gerenommeerde toeristische resort nu voorzien van alle faciliteiten die een bezoeker kon wensen. De gemeente behoort tot de gemeente Agios Vassilios. Voor degenen die verder willen verkennen, zijn er boeken beschikbaar die het scala aan lokale wandelingen beschrijven. Plakias is een goed uitgangspunt voor wandelingen langs de kust naar het strand van Souda, Damnonibeach of Amoudibeach of naar de omcirkelde heuvels naar andere dorpen zoals Sellia of Mirthios, die een spectaculair uitzicht op zee geven. U kunt ook de boot nemen naar Preveli strand.

Plakias beach Accessed by the magnificent Kotsifou or Kourtaliotiko Gorges, the village of Plakias is set towards the centre of a large bay on the southern coast of Rethymno, its enclosed within the arms of mountains. Originally a very small and quiet fishing village, it now offers a range of hotels, tavernas, cafes and shops. The natural beauty of the place helped Plakias to become a renowned tourist resort now providing all the facilities that a visitor could wish. It belongs to the municipality of Agios Vassilios. For those wishing to explore further afield, there are books available describing the range of local walks. Plakias makes a good starting point for walks along the coast to Souda beach, Damnonibeach or Amoudibeach or up into the encircling hills to other villages such as Sellia or Mirthios, which give spectacular views out to sea. You can also take the boat to Preveli beach.
